The Minnesota Association of Townships Legislative & Research (L&R) Committee develops, reviews, and recommends legislative actions on behalf of townships. All township officers are invited and encouraged to attend.

LOCATION: Minnesota Association of Townships Office, 805 Central Ave E, St. Michael, MN 55376. (There is a dedicated parking lot available.)

COST: FREE! There will be no cost to township officers to encourage increased attendance and participation. Included are materials and light refreshments.

2027 Legislative Priorities —Review proposed priorities and criteria for selecting them. Debate, amend, rank, and approve the committee's recommended priority list

11:10–11:40 AM
Advocacy & Legislative Strategy — For each major issue, propose and outline a strategy. Strategies should include

  1. Identifying key legislators

  2. Developing a township story on the issue that we expect will be compelling to legislators and MAT members. Ideally straightforward talking points.

  3. Develop a communications strategy—how are we going to get members engaged? Who will we recommend they speak to?

Develop Rapid Response plan – If an adverse bill begins to move, who can we call upon to testify? To sign a letter opposing?
