Overview

MnDOT State Aid and MnDOT Office of Traffic Engineering have been working on developing traffic safety workshop content to be delivered in-person at 24 locations across Minnesota. The goal of this project is to provide cities, counties, and other local road agencies in Minnesota with updated tools to focus on reducing fatal and serious injury crashes on their roadway system.

The workshop will be held in a classroom setting, with opportunities for questions and discussion throughout the day.

Topics

Our workshop agenda was developed with input from city and county transportation partners. Led by experts from MnDOT and HDR, the full-day workshop will cover:

  • MN Traffic Safety History: Introduction to the history of traffic safety in Minnesota
  • Regional Crash Data Review: Breakdown of crash data into contributing factors and focus areas, including Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) to help understand regional crash trends.
  • Countermeasures: Discussion of solutions for frequent crash types, grouped by rural and urban roads
  • Effective Communication: Strategies for communicating with elected officials, stakeholders, and law enforcement.
  • Funding Opportunities: Overview of state and federal funding opportunities for local transportation agencies
  • Discussion: Time for questions and conversation on traffic safety topics not covered in the training material.

Target audience

City, county, MnDOT, and other transportation agency staff involved in traffic safety work with focus on infrastructure strategies.
